Your Back Pain Could Be Caused by Ligaments and Tendons
You probably didn’t think much about it, but you have ligaments and tendons in your back that can possibly be causing your back pain. However, if you don’t know what they are, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to treat them properly. The tendons are the tough bands, think rubber bands that are connected to the muscles and bones. Tendons and ligaments join and connect to the muscles, so that we can move. In other words, when we decide we want to move, it is our tendons that cause the muscle to do it’s job of moving, so they are essential in the back as well as other areas of the body.
When Tendons Fail
Now you know that tendons are instrumental in allowing us to move freely and comfortably, but as we age, so to do our tendons and this can cause problems in our backs. If a tendon fails, it is no longer able to keep the bones in place and hold its own position in the back, which can cause it to rub against nerves and other muscles and cause us to feel pain. When a tendon fails, the tension is too much for the back muscles to handle, which causes us to have a limited range of motion and feel back pain.
When you strain a tendon or ligament, you can throw off the balance of the back muscles and bones and cause inflammation and back pain that is very hard to heal. In fact, pulling a ligament or tendon in many cases can cause you to be laid up for several weeks, so when this happens to the back, it can be very painful.
Treatment
If you are suffering back pain that is worse than it should be or if it seems to last forever and cause you severe pain, you could be dealing with a tendon or ligament problem and that needs to be treated by a professional. Many times, this type of injury can be healed with the help of physical therapy which has been specified for the back.
You also may want to consider visiting a chiropractor to treat your back pain if you think it has been caused from injured ligaments or tendons so that you can make sure your back stays properly aligned and you don’t wind up with a slipped disc or other problems which could result from this injury.
Back pain of any kind is no joke and while many of us work to keep our bodies strong and healthy, it is still possible to suffer an injury to the back, so it’s important to take any pain you feel seriously so that you can heal yourself and get back to living a pain free, healthy life.
