What Are The Main Causes Of Sciatica?

Do you suffer from sciatic pain and wonder what the main causes of sciatica are? If you can identify the main causes of your sciatica, then you are halfway there to relieving yourself of the pain. You may just be able to reduce the frequency that you suffer with a flare up, because you will be able to avoid, or alter the triggers to this painful condition.

One of the biggest causes of sciatica is a herniated disc. This occurs when the inner part of the disc breaks through the outer part of the disc. This causes the disc to slip out of place and press on the sciatic nerve, which runs down the spine. This pressure will often cause pain and inflammation to the nerve if not treated. This is also true of lumbar bulging, which can have a similar effect on the sciatic nerve.

Another main cause of sciatica is when the nerves are compressed, or due to an injury to the nervous system. You may also suffer from this condition if you have tumors on your spine or with many different syndromes, but for many, the basic, most common cause of sciatica has to do with the way they move.

It could be that you aren’t moving correctly, or are throwing your body out of alignment, even temporarily and it is another one of the main causes of sciatica pain, as it causes temporary nerve damage. Think of it as a bruise that you have. Something has caused the bruise, such as a bump to the hip and for a while it will hurt, but then it heals.

For many people, sciatica is temporary, because it is caused by certain exercises (kicking the legs to the side will do it for many people) that cause your spine to get temporarily crooked can cause your sciatica to flare up. When the spine moves from where it usually is, it can cause compression or rubbing on the nerves, which will cause your sciatica to hurt.

While people who have sciatica pain caused from conditions such as herniated discs and tumors on their spine may find that they have a harder time getting rid of their pain, many people who have sciatica caused from moving incorrectly may find that the best cure for their pain is to avoid movements which cause their body to become misaligned.
